Boarding & Care

Central Ohio’s leading boarding facility, focusing on the well-being of Ohio's happiest hunter/jumper horses.

The best reputation for horse care and training in Central Ohio.

Bookmark Farms is located on 38 acres of rolling pasture land in beautiful horse country just east of Columbus, Ohio. The facility was constructed in the summer of 2000 and opened in November of the same year.

It is the goal of every member of Bookmark Farms to treat you and your horse with the highest standard of care. Our professional staff, expansive facilities and friendly community offer boarders a comfortable home for horse and rider alike.

24-Hour On-Site Management

The Owner/Director and one other staff member live on the property within a moment’s walk to the barn. At all times there is a member of the staff watching over the barn and monitoring the well-being of the horses.

Feeding

Working with each horse’s owner, we advise and design a high-quality diet customized for each horse’s needs. Some of the feeds we offer are high quality pelleted low sugar senior feed mixed with alfalfa pellets, low starch pelleted feed, barley, alfalfa pellets, timothy cubes, and beet pulp. Special feeding needs for boarders are always accomodated. Bookmark  Farms’ Owner/Director Joan Promen has 45 years of experience in barn management and equine nutrition and closely oversees this and all aspects of equine care.

In addition to hay and water five times every day, grain is given twice a day. Most of our hay comes from our organic fields and additional hay is purchased from long-term, reputable local hay dealers.

Supplements

Smartpak or customized supplement baggies can be provided by the owner, or for an additional fee our staff will create boarders’ baggies. The distribution of these supplements is closely monitored by our staff.

Turnout & Exercise

Every horse is given the opportunity to stretch their legs every day, preferably outside if weather permits. Additional turnout areas are available according to the needs of each individual horse at Bookmark Farms.

Additional Health Care

Vendors of veterinary, farrier, and dentistry services will be brought in at the owner’s expense. We endorse the use of Eastern/Western medicine, chiropractic care, homeopathy, equine massage, acupuncture, and myofascial release when necessary. These services can be arranged as needed, or scheduled on a regular basis.

Stall Maintenance

Stalls are cleaned 2x/day (sometimes 3x in summer). Quality bedding is refreshed daily. Water buckets are cleaned and disinfected on a weekly basis, or more frequently as needed.

We recommend owners provide heated buckets for use in the winter and fans for the warm summer months. Climate control is managed with a screened window in each stall. Blanket changing is included in board.

Please Note!

In addition to our boarding fee, boarders also utilize our services. This translates into weekly lessons, training and schooling services, and/or participation in horse shows. Please inquire in person if you have further questions regarding this policy. Bookmark Farms is a Hunter/Jumper facility. Our lesson program is based on teaching Classical Hunt Seat. We look forward to talking to you about boarding your horse at Bookmark Farms.

“I was fortunate to find Bookmark Farms more than a decade ago. I was just beginning a serious endeavor to learn how to ride, trot, canter and perhaps one day jump. As an adult male this seemed like a formidable task having had very little experience with horses. I felt comfortable on day one with Owner Joan Promen. Joan is one of several excellent instructors at Bookmark Farms. Her attitude was that we were going to get the results that I wanted but in a safe manner for both me and the lesson horse.

I now have my own horse and board it at Bookmark Farms. I participate in off-site events such as trail rides and paces. I have accomplished all the basic skills I desired and now haul my own horse to events. The entire staff is very supportive in helping me get ready for off-site events......as they say, ‘it takes a village.'

Regardless of your skill level or age you will find a professional and friendly environment at Bookmark Farms.”
