Trainers/Instructors
Our instructors provide superior training to our horses and students.
Joan Promen, Owner/Director
Joan Promen has been a riding, training, showing, and instructing students and instructors for over 53 years. After leasing many facilities, Joan and her family were able to obtain 33 acres of land east of Hwy 310 and Morse Rd. by Lynd’s fruit farm in 1998. In late 1999, with only 6 months to plan, get financing and build, Bookmark Farms was opened in September 2000. In 2003, Joan obtained the adjoining five acres and house to make Bookmark Farms a 38-acre facility.
Over the years, Bookmark Farms has grown to be known as a quality hunter- jumper educational and training center. Now, along with our wonderful barn staff, assistant trainers and support staff, she is proud to continue to offer the best in learning here at Bookmark Farms for horse and rider. While managing the very active barn, Joan still teaches about 15 hours a week and tries to ride when she can!
Kim Riddel, Trainer/Instructor
Kim has been training horses and teaching riding lessons for over 20 years. She ran her own very successful show barn in California and had a large group of show students who won may awards and blue ribbons. She currently has a small farm here in Granville and does horse boarding and lessons. Kim has worked with many well-known trainers and instructors throughout her career such as, Olympic medalist Steffen Peters and horse behavior experts John Lyons and Charles Wilhelm, who she worked for and trained under at his barn for several years. She enjoys teaching all levels of riders but particularly loves teaching the proper basics to the beginner children and adults at Bookmark Farms.
Annie Promen, Bookkeeper/Camp Manager/Business Planning
Annie keeps it in the family by helping her sister Joan with the bookkeeping, camp planning, and general business management. Since 2007, Annie has maintained her part-time position at Bookmark Farms while managing her free-lance media career working in sports TV production. Annie is often in the broadcast booth or production truck assisting producers and announcers for Blue Jackets, Columbus Crew and a variety of OSU Buckeye sports.
